UWCU Builds a Business Case for IAM Success with Fischer Identity

The Challenge

The University of Wisconsin Credit Union (UWCU) relied on a manual approach to Identity and Access Management (IAM), which created inefficiencies, security concerns, and compliance gaps. As regulatory requirements became more stringent, it became clear that the existing process could no longer scale or satisfy audit expectations. To address these growing challenges, UWCU issued a comprehensive IAM Request for Information (RFI), seeking a solution that could automate user lifecycle management, streamline access requests, enforce role-based access policies, support access certification, and provide robust reporting and analytics. With a strong emphasis on experience, references, and compliance capabilities, the RFI was sent to eleven vendors.

After an intensive evaluation process—including response reviews, on-site demos, and proof-of-concept sessions—UWCU selected Fischer Identity as the partner best equipped to meet their technical, operational, and regulatory needs.

How Fischer Helped

UWCU implemented Fischer Identity in a phased approach, beginning with automating the user lifecycle for internal employees and consultants. In the initial phase, Fischer processed employee data from flat files and automated provisioning and deprovisioning of Active Directory and Exchange accounts. Additional business applications were managed through Fischer’s Administrative Provisioning feature, enabling request-based access with proper approvals. Fischer’s Identity Claiming process streamlined onboarding, allowing users to securely complete their security profiles and set initial passwords. An intuitive self-service interface was deployed, empowering users to manage passwords and request additional access through role-based approval workflows. In phase two, Fischer supported UWCU’s transition to UltiPro as their new source of authority and migration from on-premises Exchange to Office 365. With Fischer’s expertise in both platforms, the transition was smooth and efficient, requiring minimal disruption.

Fischer’s compliance and access certification capabilities were also deployed to meet regulatory requirements, enabling UWCU to conduct attestation campaigns across critical applications and ensure access was properly reviewed and remediated when necessary.

The Outcome

With Fischer Identity, UWCU gained a modern IAM solution that significantly improved operational efficiency, security, and compliance. User provisioning and deprovisioning became timely and automated, reducing delays and manual effort. Employees and consultants now benefit from a self-service portal for password management and access requests, increasing satisfaction and reducing IT workload. The successful deployment of access certification and attestation campaigns helped UWCU demonstrate regulatory compliance and remediate over-privileged access, earning strong approval from auditors.

By selecting Fischer Identity, UWCU not only modernized its IAM infrastructure but also realized measurable ROI, improved user experience, and enhanced its ability to support a growing and regulated user base.
